Nobel Biocare Buys Alpha BioTec for $95M

nobel3.gifNobel Biocare, the world leading esthetic dental company from Sweden has just bought Israeli dental implant company Alpha Biotec for $95M. Alpha Biotec has 60% market share in Israel and also supplies 40 other countries. It’s extremely high growth of 35% over the last few years has emerged from its leading positions in markets all over the world, particularly in high growth countries like India and Russia, and emerging regions in Eastern Europe and Latin America.

Nobel will own all rights to Alpha Biotec’s trademarks, brands, patents, pipeline products, etc. and will retain all of its 120 employees. Furthermore, the CEO of Alpha Biotec, Ophir Fromovich will sit on Nobel’s Board and act as an advisor to the company.

Domenico Scala, CEO of Nobel Biocare says: “This acquisition expands Nobel Biocare’s leading position by allowing us to enter new and fast-growing market segments. Alpha Biotec‘s leading position in Israel, its attractive pipeline and strong innovation skills with excellent people will complement our innovation capabilities.” The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2008.
